First of all consider what fabric you like best. There are always going to be lots of options. If you are the type who sweats a lot then perhaps you should get some tennis shorts made of fabric with superior wicking properties that are usually fond in polyester and synthetic blends. If sweating is not an issue then simple cotton are preferred by a lot of people as the most comfortable. Also consider whether you want ventilation holes in the shorts for easy cooling.
The next thing you should consider is whether or not you need pockets in your tennis shorts. For some this is a big deal to be able to stuff tennis balls into your shorts for easy access during play. For others, simply putting a tennis ball in your sock or waist band is what they prefer and thus do not need pockets. Remember that in certain cases, tennis shorts with pockets will be considerably heavier. The pockets will block ventilation if the material of the shorts has ventilation holes.
Another thing to think about when purchasing your tennis shorts is the actual length of the short. The length of the short can effect your performance on the court. It is common today for younger people to want to follow fashion trends and want to wear the NBA basketball type of baggy short that hands below the knees. Shorts that hang below the knees can effect your play as the can restrict movement. Consider a cooler shorter style short in this case.
Last you want to consider what pattern or color to purchase. If you look at the professional tennis tour you will usually see players coordinate their tennis shorts and tennis shirts in some sort of complimentary fashion. For example a grey short with a green stripe and a green shirt with a grey stripe. So consider what shirts you own and which tennis shorts will look good with the shirts that you already own.
Also don't be afraid to try other brands that aren't as main stream as the traditional tennis companies. If you want to be more original and add some flair you are going to have to look at other brands. As long as your tennis shorts are made of soft, athletic, stretchy material, it does not matter if you purchase shorts that are not designed for tennis to use on the court.
Once you know exactly what material, color, style of tennis shorts you are looking for, try the internet markets. You will usually find a ton of different choices and hopefully save some time and money in your shopping endeavor. |
